Episode 2: Purim Explained, Conservative Women, and UCLA Girl

Overheard in this episode of Hey! That’s My Hummus!

“Ahasuerus… he’s kind of a frat boy, huh?”

Sometimes, it’s Wikipedia and then Torah… but mostly Torah and then Wikipedia…”

“This woman controlled, you know, whatever those seas are somewhere around Asia…”

“I will address you when I talk to you, young lady.”

I’ve always hated the generic “Asian” tag as well. Throw “European”, “South American” and “African” in there as well. The groups of people that it supposedly referencing are far too different to classify thusly.

But if it weren’t for that generality, I wouldn’t have one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies.

    From The Cable Guy:
Sam Sweet: [Tape of his phone call to the police] Oh my God! Oh my God! My twin brother has been shot! I think it was an Asian gang or something… There was this guy, he looked Asian… and he was speaking another language, I’m pretty sure it was… Asian.

Hey! “BE ALL BUDDHIST AND GIVE HER A PASS?!?” Seriously? Was that a dig on MY religion? Are you saying that we Buddhists support racism? ZOMG! ARE MUSLIMS AND JEWS TEAMING UP AGAINST BUDDHISTS NOW?!? Finally, the true motivation behind this podcast has come to light.

I had thought your program was to be a uniting force for ALL people to show how embracing foreign cultures and seeing the beauty in diversity makes us stronger. But now I know this only applies to non-Buddhists, because we’re just a bunch of pro-racism bigots who are undeserving of hummus.

    🙂

    Another excellent episode! Thanks, guys!

Hahahaha…. I’d apologize, but everyone knows Buddhists are trouble makers. 🙂

We just can’t help it. Probably because Buddhism is considered an “Asian” religion. And everybody knows what happens when we Asians* go to the library with our mobile phones. It’s all “ching chong” this and “ling long” that… just causing trouble, because its what we do.

*By the way, I’m Asian now. Tell Shiny to stop persecuting us!
